Tasmania will welcome 10 mainlanders to visit its most beloved tourism spots.

The winners of the “winternship” will have the opportunity to get a true taste of Tassie, from being a barrel butler at a whiskey distillery to babysitting Tasmanian devils, skippering a sauna boat or warming seats at Launceston’s Cataract Gorge.

Flights, two nights’ accommodation and car hire are all included for the winning “winterns”.

“They’ve got to apply, tell us why they’ll be a great wintern and then there’ll be a shortlist,” Tourism Tasmania chief executive Sarah Clark said.

The winners are hand-selected by the tourism operators.

“Research shows us that 68 per cent of Australians actually want to wish away their winter,” Tourism Tasmania chief executive Sarah Clark said.

“I know they’ll want to come back and holiday in Tasmania, some may even want to move down here.”

Applications open tomorrow and close June 17.
