A bold bid has been launched to bring US President Donald Trump to Queensland for next year’s Quad leaders summit.

As he addressed the American Chamber of Commerce lunch today, Premier David Crisafulli said he could not “think of a more appropriate place” to host the event than Australia’s Sunshine State.

“I see that as a really, really successful opportunity if we get that right,” Crisafulli said.

The Queensland leader cited the G20 leaders’ summit in 2014, which saw Brisbane play host to world leaders.

“It was amazing to see the world leaders here, but I’m not certain that Queensland quite got the buzz and the recognition, because it was so big,” he said.

“It was Obama and Putin and was just awe-inspiring.

“The amount of horsepower and personnel and the security detail, but sort of it blended a little bit into where it was.”

The Quad – a partnership between Australia, the United States, Japan and India – aims to maintain a free and open Indo-Pacific region.

India is the host of this year’s summit and it is believed Australia could host the next event as early as 2026.
