International flight attendant Georgina Willard found herself unemployed when COVID-19 hit and she quickly started gaining weight.

However, Willard managed to lose 39 kilograms in the space of 16 months while following the CSIRO’s Total Wellbeing diet, with the help of their artificial intelligence tool ‘My Journey’.

“I lost my job and found myself sitting at home and probably turning to emotional eating more than I should have,” Willard said.

“I started setting smaller, more manageable targets… so for me it was about getting to the next five kilos.”

“I weighed 88.1 kilos and I’m currently and 49.1 kilos.”

The CSIRO’s tool takes an individual’s health data into consideration and designs personalised goals to lose weight.

CSIRO Research Scientist Dr Gilly Hendrie says the system supports early weight loss and leads to better long-term results.

“Your age and gender, your starting weight your health status, your commitment to the program at the start, your experience with weight loss previously.

“Breaking it up into bite-sized pieces celebrating each win along the way, really makes that longer-term success more achievable.”

Artificial intelligence could be the key to losing weight efficiently and keeping it off for good," some Aussie scientists claim.

Data by CSIRO revealed that only 3 per cent of participants who set ambitious goals, like losing 20 kilos, actually achieved the task.

Whereas nine out of 10 people who used customised goal-setting ended up losing 5 per cent or more of their body weight within the year.

It has been more than a decade since the CSIRO launched their Total Wellbeing diet, which has helped over 1 million Australians.
