An 11-year-old girl was involved in a tragic car accident at the intersection of High Street and Wallace Roads in Wantirna South. She was in a silver Toyota Corolla, accompanied by her parents and a four-year-old boy, when the vehicle collided with a Nissan Skyline around 8:20 p.m.

After the accident, the girl was rushed to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. Sadly, she succumbed to her injuries last night.

The young boy, aged four, was also hospitalized due to serious injuries, although they are not considered life-threatening.

The driver of the Toyota, a 38-year-old woman from Knoxfield, sustained minor injuries and was taken to a medical facility for treatment.

The other adult passenger, a 38-year-old man, also from Knoxfield, thankfully did not suffer any physical injuries in the crash.

Two male occupants of the Nissan sustained minor injuries and did not require hospital treatment.

The female Corolla driver allegedly failed to give way to the Nissan, police said.

“Please make sure your children are properly restrained in appropriate restraints in the back seat,” Detective Sergeant Stephen Hill said yesterday.

“They are in your hands and hopefully we can avoid another tragedy like this.”

Detectives are urging drivers who were travelling on High Street Road or Wallace Road before the collision to check their dashcam.
