A 17-year-old boy has died and his 16-year-old brother is fighting for life in Sydney’s Royal North Shore Hospital after a car crash in the Hunter Valley.

Emergency services were called to John Renshaw Drive at Black Hill after reports of a crash about 9pm last night.

When police arrived they found that a Holden Commodore and a Ford Ute had collided.

The learner driver of the Holden, 17-year-old Hayden, died at the scene.

His younger brother Daniel was in the back seat and was treated at the scene by paramedics before being airlifted to hospital in a critical condition.

It is understood he has been placed in an induced coma.

The boy’s mother Mary Fenech said they were the “apples of my eye.”

“Beautiful boys, lovely manners very respectful, kind.”

Their uncle was in the passenger seat. He was taken to John Hunter Hospital in a stable condition.

The ute’s 62-year-old driver was treated for minor injuries.

She was also taken to John Hunter Hospital for mandatory testing.

Police set up a crime scene and are investigating the crash.

A report will be prepared for the coroner.
