Authorities are investigating a violent incident on Merrylands Road, which occurred around 10 a.m., as a random act of violence, according to 9News.
Emergency medical responders tended to three individuals at the scene, with one tragically succumbing to their injuries.
The other two victims, a man and a woman both in their 20s, were rushed to Westmead Hospital, where they remain in critical condition.
Reports indicate that the man sustained a stab wound to the neck and is in serious condition, while the woman was stabbed in the chest and abdomen, leaving her in critical condition.
The identity of the deceased has not yet been confirmed.
A suspect was arrested on Smythe Street in Merrylands and taken to Granville Police Station.
Police have since been searching the front yard and driveway of a home.
The scene of the stabbing is in a high-pedestrian area, right by a shopping centre and train station.
