Tragedy struck at the Hobart waterfront as divers recovered the body of a young man believed to have fallen from a French Antarctic research vessel. The somber discovery came after the man, in his 20s, was reported missing by the crew of the Perseverance in the early hours of Tuesday morning.
The crew reported the incident at 3:55 a.m., prompting an immediate search by police at the Sullivans Cove area. Just a few hours later, the search concluded when the body was found shortly before 7:45 a.m.
The vessel in question, the Perseverance, is a 42-meter sailing ship hailing from France. It is specifically designed for scientific research and supply missions within the demanding environments of polar waters.
Police searches were conducted at the Sullivans Cove waterfront, with his body discovered shortly before 7.45am.
