A shocking incident unfolded in Sydney, where police were alerted to a tragic scene involving the deaths of a woman and two children, reportedly in an act of domestic violence. The suspect in the case, a man who is believed to know the victims, was the one who dialed Triple Zero, according to the authorities.
The distressing discovery was made when emergency services responded to an urgent call on Raymond Avenue in Campbelltown shortly before 8 p.m. Upon arrival, they encountered a “particularly violent scene” where a woman in her mid-40s and two young children, both under the age of 10, were found deceased inside the residence.
While details remain sparse, Acting Superintendent Michael Moroney refrained from confirming whether the man in custody was the husband of the woman and the father of the children. However, he emphasized that the individuals involved were known to each other.
“Though I am unable to provide specific details regarding the cause of death, I can confirm that all three victims suffered significant injuries, indicative of a particularly violent crime scene,” Moroney stated in a late-night briefing.
The 48-year-old man was promptly arrested at the scene and taken to Campbelltown police station. As of now, he has not undergone a formal interview or been charged, with investigations ongoing into this devastating case.
Moroney wouldn’t go into details about any weapons being seized, saying only “a number of items” were found inside but no guns.
He said the bodies “were located in various parts of the premises” and it was believed the 48-year-old man called emergency services.
“I haven’t listened to the Triple Zero call,” he said.
“Broadly, quite broadly, the information was, an incident happened at that location and he was requesting police to that scene.”
Moroney said the man had no history with police and there were no offenders believed to be outstanding.
There was no indication of mental health issues but that would form part of the police investigation.
A large police presence remained into the night on the street, where police had established a crime scene.
The home was cordoned off with police tape and multiple police vehicles with flashing lights were parked up and down the street.
Police could be seen in the front yard of the home.
Campbelltown detectives are investigating with the help State Crime Command’s homicide squad.
Police called on anyone with information to come forward.
The gruesome discovery came hours after police announced hundreds of people had been arrested in a statewide operation targeting repeat domestic violence offenders.
“This today appears to be not something that we had on our radar in terms of being known to police, but I can reassure the public that domestic violence is a number one priority for the NSW Police, and we will continue to prioritise DV offenders,” Moroney said.
