One person killed, another seriously injured after separate freak incidents in Queensland

One person has died and another is critically injured after two accidents in Queensland overnight.

A 72-year-old man was killed in a single-vehicle motorbike crash in Lakefield, north Queensland, at 1.30pm yesterday.

Initial reports from the crash revealed the rider lost control of the motorbike on a dirt track, causing him to crash.

The man, a Canadian national, died at the scene.

In a separate crash in Bayview Heights, further down the coast, a woman was run over by a car.

Police were called to a home in Glen Close at 5pm after reports of a woman being hit by a car.

Investigators say the woman was trying to stop the car from rolling down the driveway when it crushed her.

There was no one driving in the vehicle at the time.

The 75-year-old woman was trans[orted to Cairns Hospital in a critical condition, where she remains.

Queensland Police’s forensic crash unit are investigating both accidents.
