Concerns are mounting over a missing swimmer mere hours after the tragic discovery of a woman’s body at a different Sydney beach.
Emergency crews were dispatched to Coogee Beach shortly after 6 a.m. following reports of a young man, presumed to be in his 20s, struggling in the surf.
The search effort for the man involves a coordinated response from police, Marine Area Command, NSW Ambulance, Surf Life Saving NSW, and Randwick City Council.
Search teams are contending with challenging conditions, including turbulent waves, strong currents, and adverse weather.
Earlier today, authorities retrieved a body after a woman was swept out to sea at Maroubra Beach.
At about 4am, emergency services were called to Maroubra Beach on Marine Parade.
They were told a 25-year-old woman had been knocked into a tidal rock pool by a wave, before further waves dragged her into the ocean.
Police searched the waters for about an hour before finding a body at about 5am.
The body is yet to be formally identified but is believed to be that of the woman.
A report will be prepared for the coroner.
