Sharon Simmons, a DoorDash delivery driver, recently had an unexpected experience when she delivered a McDonald’s order to former President Trump. According to a CBS report, after the delivery, Trump invited her to speak with reporters about a policy benefiting workers through tax exemptions on tips.
Simmons, who is also a grandmother, shared her story about how the “no tax on tips” initiative has been a significant financial relief, especially during her husband’s battle with cancer. The delivery to the White House was her first, making the experience all the more memorable.
She explained that the policy, which allows workers to retain more of their earnings from tips, resulted in an extra $11,000 for her, a sum she would not have received otherwise.
Trump highlighted the policy as “very special,” a sentiment that Simmons echoed, appreciating the tangible impact it had on her finances.
However, when Trump queried her with, “And I think you voted for me, do you think?” she chose not to elaborate further on her voting preferences.
“Um, maybe,” Simmons replied.
“I heard you’re a great supporter, we appreciate it,” Trump said.
When Trump began taking questions from reporters, one asked SImmons whether the White House tipped well.
Um,” she smiled, “potentially.”
“Great,” Trump replied, handing her US$100 ($140) cash.
“Yes, very,” Simmons said.
