In a recent interview with Politico, former President Donald Trump expressed a stark view of Europe, describing many European nations as being in a state of decline. “Most European nations, they’re, they’re decaying. They’re decaying,” he remarked during the conversation held on Tuesday night, Australian time.
Trump criticized European countries for their immigration policies, suggesting that they are reluctant to repatriate migrants. “They don’t want to send them back to where they came from,” he stated, further labeling these nations as “weak” and overly concerned with political correctness.
Shifting his focus to the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine, Trump voiced his disapproval of Europe’s involvement. He argued, “They talk but they don’t produce. And the war just keeps going on and on.” This comment underscores his perception of a lack of effective action from Europe in contributing towards a resolution.
These statements come amid growing tensions between the United States and its European allies regarding Trump’s proposed strategies to end the conflict. Many European leaders are apprehensive that such plans might compel Ukraine to concede territory to Russia, a move they are eager to avoid.
The US president then criticised Europe’s role in resolving the war between Russia and Ukraine, saying: “They talk but they don’t produce. And the war just keeps going on and on.”
The US and its European allies are increasingly at odds over Trump’s plan to end the war, which many European capitals fear will force Ukraine to hand over territory to Russia.
Trump calls for elections in Ukraine
His comments came as Ukraine’s European allies expressed solidarity with Ukraine in London on Monday, with Zelenskyy maintaining Ukraine has “no right” to cede the territories claimed by Putin to Russia.
Fresh elections were included in the draft US plan to end the war.
