Donald Trump is facing criticism from yet another ally, this time due to a statement he shared on his Truth Social platform.
On a recent occasion, Trump shared a transcript featuring remarks by conservative podcast host Michael Savage, who criticized the concept of birthright citizenship.
This particular post has drawn strong reactions, especially from Randhir Jaiswal, a spokesman for India’s foreign ministry.
The source of the controversy lies in a specific line from the post.
“A baby here becomes an instant citizen, and then they bring the entire family in from China or India or some other hellhole on the planet,” the post stated.
Jaiswal called out the comment today, saying it was “obviously uninformed, inappropriate and in poor taste”.
Trump also copped a whack from a politician in his own country, with Deomcrat Ami Bera — whose parents are Indian immigrants — saying it was “beneath the dignity of the office he holds”.
“President Trump, who was born into wealth and privilege, has never had to struggle the way so many immigrant families have,” he said.
