Parts of Victoria are still being lashed by wild winds this morning after a long, busy night for the State Emergency Service.

The SES responded to 800 calls for help as winds brought down trees across the state, with the South West Barwon region, including Warrnambool and Portland, copping the brunt of the winds.

Gusts as strong as 128km/h were recorded at Mt Hotham, gusts of 117km/h were recorded at Wilsons Promontory, while Mount William reached up to 107km/h an hour.

In Warrnambool, wind gusts reached 102km/h and Point Cook saw winds up to 91km/h.

The Bureau of Meteorology has issued severe wind warnings for the rest of today in Melbourne and the state’s east.

Damaging winds will affect Seymour, Geelong, Melbourne, Wonthaggi, Orbost and Frankston.

In southern Victoria, winds are expected to ease by the afternoon.

There is also a warning for blizzards in the Alpine Region

Authorities are warning that if you don’t need to travel, stay off the roads.

Meanwhile, parts of NSW have also been issued severe wind warnings, with strong gusts expected to lash a large part of the coast today.

The Illawarra region will cop the brunt of the winds, with damaging wind gusts up to 110km/h in the alpine areas and gusts up to 90km/h in the central ranges, southern ranges and Illawarra.

Winds are expected to shift to a southwesterly direction during the morning, also putting parts of the Hunter, Mid North Coast and Northern Tablelands at risk.

The ACT has also been issued the same severe wind warning.

Meanwhile, parts of NSW have also been issued severe wind warnings, with strong gusts expected to lash a large part of the coast today. (BoM)

They are expected to calm down by the afternoon.

The winds won’t reach Queensland, with sunny weather in store for the day.

South Australia is also in the clear today, after a day of intense winds yesterday.
