Police alleged the 15-year-old and 18-year-old males were in a Subaru Outback wagon, that was stolen during an aggravated burglary in Berwick on January 30, when they attempted two carjackings in Richmond yesterday.

The pair allegedly tried to carjack a blue BMW on Bendigo Street about 1.30pm, with one of the teenagers allegedly threatening the driver with an axe.

The BMW drove off down Swan Street but was allegedly followed by the teenagers in the Subaru.

Then, at the intersections of Burnley and Swan streets, police alleged the teenagers tried to carjack a black Mercedes.

It’s claimed one of the allegedly armed teenagers tried to pull the driver from the car but was unsuccessful and the driver was able to make a getaway.

According to witnesses, the car was an Uber and had a passenger in the backseat.

“We saw the guy jump out of the car with an axe, and then he went to open the Uber driver’s car, and then he smashed on the window, the windscreen,” a witness told 9News.

The teenagers then allegedly continued driving down Swan Street before it crashed into an orange Holden Barina and Lewis’ parked four-wheel-drive.

As the Subaru lay flipped onto its side, the pair allegedly ran from the scene but were followed by two brothers who had witnessed the incident.

The brothers chased them down and cornered them at a nearby KFC, where they performed a citizen’s arrest.

”I looked at my brother and he looked at me and I said ‘we gotta get them’. So we just started chasing them and I was screaming out to them ‘just stop because I’m going to get you,” Matthew Turco told 9News.

The pair were both charged with several offences including four counts of possessing a controlled weapon without excuse, three counts of attempted aggravated carjacking and theft of a motor vehicle.

The 15-year-old was remanded in custody to appear at a children’s court and the 18-year-old was remanded to appear at Melbourne Magistrates Court later today.
