Bragg has stated his intention to resign from the frontbench should the Liberal Party decide to exit the Paris Agreement, although he considers such an action to be improbable.
The Paris Agreement, established in 2015, mandates that by 2050, global greenhouse gas emissions must be balanced with their removal and storage, achieving net-zero emissions.
Nationals leader David Littleproud affirmed the party’s commitment to emission reductions, while advocating for what he described as a “better, cheaper, fairer” approach to tackling the issue.
“I don’t think you can have a fatwa on two words. I think that’s too silly for words, frankly,” Bragg commented.
Ley has refrained from taking a definitive stance, acknowledging the Nationals’ right to their own perspective and suggesting that discussions about “next steps” are forthcoming.
Ley has avoided committing to a position, saying the Nationals were “entitled” to their own position and that they would speak about “next steps”.
