Strong winds, reaching speeds of up to 72 km/h near the airport, forced a commercial flight to make an unexpected landing at the Edinburgh Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) base, located 25 kilometers north of Adelaide.
The intense gusts resulted in a turbulent journey for those on board en route to the South Australian capital.
“It was horrendously bumpy, very bumpy,” recounted passenger Shayne Middleton.
Once safely on the ground, the flight encountered an additional, unforeseen challenge.
A woman in her 30s experienced a medical emergency and was subsequently taken to Lyell McEwin Hospital, where she remained in stable condition.
Others remained on board until the flight was back in the air just before 8pm.
The airline apologised to passengers for any inconvenience.
“Instead of circling for an extended time over Adelaide due to weather, the pilot made the decision to refuel at Edinburgh,” the spokesperson said.
