A Melbourne woman will face court accused of receiving over $1.4 million in salary for legal counsel despite not being a lawyer.

An unsettling case has emerged from Surrey Hills, where a 42-year-old woman was taken into custody yesterday morning. The arrest follows an in-depth investigation revealing that the individual allegedly posed as a qualified solicitor, despite lacking both a law degree and an Australian practicing certificate.

Authorities are set to argue that since 2019, the woman has been unlawfully practicing as legal counsel across several firms. This unqualified practice reportedly resulted in her receiving over $1.4 million in remuneration.

A woman has been charged with pretending to be a lawyer in Melbourne.

She now faces serious legal repercussions, charged with five counts of fraud and practicing law without the necessary qualifications.

Currently out on bail, the woman is scheduled to make her court appearance on February 16, where these grave accusations will be addressed.

She was bailed and will appear in court on February 16.
