Today, a Sydney gas station became the center of attention when fuel prices plummeted to a mere 78¢ per liter, causing a rush of eager drivers.

In Blacktown, located in Sydney’s western suburbs, the Metro Petroleum station experienced such overwhelming crowds that police intervention was required to manage the lengthy queues.

This extraordinary fuel price, the lowest seen in decades, was not a long-term offer but rather a short-lived opportunity.

Word quickly spread that the price had dropped to lows some said they had not seen for 20 years. (Nine)

The price drop was made possible by a generous gesture from a former federal candidate, aimed specifically at benefiting Blacktown motorists.

Matthew Camenzuli expressed immense satisfaction in using some of his government electoral reimbursement funds, awarded for securing 4 percent of the vote, to provide a bit of financial relief at the pump.

“Normally the money goes to either the candidate or their political party and they put in their pockets. I don’t want the taxpayers’ money,” he said.

“So petrol station here on Flushcombe Road, the fuel is now 78¢ a litre and it will be 78¢ a litre until the $10,000 runs out.”

It comes amid predictions costs at the bower will only rise again as benchmark oil prices soar as a result of the Iran war.

After about three hours, Camenzuli’s tab was dry.

He said he was not sure if he would contest the next federal election, but if he did he was sure to have won some easy votes.

Matthew Camenzuli said it “felt fantastic” to use some of the money he received from the government for getting 4 per cent of the vote to give some relief at the bowser. (Nine)
