Residents near Thompson Road and Armstrong Street in North Geelong were urgently advised to evacuate following the explosion of several gas bottles around 3:30 PM, according to VicEmergency.
Fire Rescue Victoria (FRV) reported that emergency crews responded swiftly, arriving within five minutes to find a vehicle on a truck engulfed in flames. The fire had spread to nearby gas bottles, triggering multiple explosions.
A total of eight firetrucks were dispatched to the scene as firefighters worked to control the blaze.
FRV cautioned the public, “You will see black smoke. Do not enter the area, as it is extremely dangerous.”

Police and paramedics are also on scene.
Thompson Road, Armstrong Street and Pashley Avenue are all closed.
People in the area are urged to travel away from the area.
“If you are away from home, do not return,” the warning read.
“If you are driving, shut all windows, turn off your air conditioning and close the vents. Immediately leave the warning area.”
