A manhunt is intensifying across western Adelaide as authorities search for a prisoner who managed to escape custody. The search began after a dramatic confrontation unfolded yesterday morning, leading to the man’s arrest.

The 36-year-old suspect was initially apprehended after police attempted to stop him at around 11:20 a.m. The incident took place in Glenelg North, where he was spotted riding a bicycle without wearing a helmet. When officers intervened, the situation quickly escalated.

Rather than comply with the police request, the man entered a property on Inverarity Place. There, he allegedly brandished a hammer in a threatening manner and charged at the officers, attempting to strike them.

The man was later charged with assaulting an emergency worker, carrying a banned weapon and resisting police.

He was refused bail and was scheduled to appear in court today.

While in custody, the man was taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital for a medical assessment.
