A manhunt is intensifying across western Adelaide as authorities search for a prisoner who managed to escape custody. The search began after a dramatic confrontation unfolded yesterday morning, leading to the man’s arrest.

The 36-year-old suspect was initially apprehended after police attempted to stop him at around 11:20 a.m. The incident took place in Glenelg North, where he was spotted riding a bicycle without wearing a helmet. When officers intervened, the situation quickly escalated.

Rather than comply with the police request, the man entered a property on Inverarity Place. There, he allegedly brandished a hammer in a threatening manner and charged at the officers, attempting to strike them.

In response, the officers deployed pepper spray to subdue and arrest him. During a search of his belongings, police discovered and confiscated a taser weapon along with the hammer.

Authorities are urging the public to remain vigilant as the search for the escapee continues. The community is advised to report any sightings or information that could aid in the successful capture of the fugitive.

The man was later charged with assaulting an emergency worker, carrying a banned weapon and resisting police.

He was refused bail and was scheduled to appear in court today.

While in custody, the man was taken to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital for a medical assessment.
