Man sentenced in Victoria over attack on flight crew

A New Zealand man has been sentenced in Victoria after attacking two airline crew members on an international flight.

The 23-year-old man was arrested on October 23 last year after he was drunk and disruptive on a flight from Perth to Auckland, New Zealand.

He refused to comply with crew members’ requests and attacked two of them, inflicting minor injuries.

He was restrained at the back of the aircraft.

The flight was diverted to Melbourne Airport, where the man was removed by Australian Federal Police officers.

On April 17 this year, he pleaded guilty to two counts of assaulting aircraft crew.

The man has been ordered to pay more than $10,000 in compensation (AFP)

He has now been sentenced to six months in jail, but will be released immediately on a two-year good behaviour bond.

He was also ordered to pay the airline $10,824 in compensation.
