This morning updates are coming through for regional Victorian residents most at risk of flood damage.
Shepparton, in the state’s north, is one of the most at risk areas today with floodwaters expected to exceed the devastating 1974 levels.
Mayor Shane Sali said the rainfall over the past few days has caused the Goulburn River to surge with water levels flowing to Greater Shepparton.
“There will be a significant amount of water upon us over the course of today, into tonight and especially over the remainder of Sunday and Monday,” he said.
Floodwaters rose to 8.2 metres yesterday, well above the 1974 mark, in Seymour yesterday but Shepparton is preparing for a 12-metre high this evening.

“There’s a significant proportion of our community that will be impacted by floods but another significant proportion that won’t,” Sali said.
He has told residents in low-lying areas to prepare and evacuate now.
“We are operating on the worst-case scenario, that if it doesn’t eventuate at least we have put measures in place to accommodate people,” he said.
“We are talking about sand bagging and getting your valuables to families that aren’t going to be impacted.
“Acting now rather than later is always the best case.”
