Dramatic video has captured the moment a group of alleged car thieves as young as 12 were arrested trying to flee a luxury car at a service station on Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula.
Several police cars surrounded a parked Mercedes in a service station in Rye after reports of a robbery at a licensed venue on Ocean Beach Road in Sorrento just before 1am yesterday.

Police said they began following the hatch on Point Nepean Road in Blairgowrie when it pulled into the petrol station.

The Mercedes then reversed into an unmarked police car, before six teens attempted to flee on foot.

Footage filmed by a bystander shows a police officer dragging one of the alleged offenders out of the rear window of the car, which appeared to be smashed, before they were thrown to the ground and arrested.

Female screams could be heard as officers told the group of teens to “get on the ground”.

Capsicum spray was also used on the alleged offenders, according to police.

Six teens were arrested, while a seventh remains on the run.
