An AI-powered, humanoid robot that was meant to signal the next big Russian tech advance went sour in Moscow after literally falling flat on its “face”.

The latest innovation from manufacturer Idol, a robot named AIdol, made its highly anticipated debut during a recent event. This unveiling was a moment of excitement and curiosity for those in attendance.

A video from the event captured AIdol’s initial moments on stage. The robot took a few tentative steps, showcasing its ability to move autonomously. Attempting a friendly gesture, AIdol raised its right “arm” to wave at the audience.

However, the robot’s balance seemed precarious, prompting handlers to approach quickly. Despite their readiness, AIdol managed to stay upright for a few more steps before eventually tipping forward.

The scene quickly turned into a coordinated rescue effort as the handlers rushed to help AIdol back on its feet. Simultaneously, another team member drew a black sheet across the stage, providing a moment of privacy as they worked to steady the robot.

The handlers rush to lift the robot up, at the same time as another is drawing a black sheet in front of the scene.

Idol chief exectuive Vladimir Vitukhin said the fall was caused by calibration errors and that the robot remained in its testing phase, according to media reports.
