Jordan Powell, 32, fronted Geelong Magistrates’ Court today charged with intentionally causing serious injury.
Powell did not make an application for bail but appeared in an agitated state.
Residents living on the street where the woman was attacked say they are shocked by the incident.
One resident, Margaret, said it was terrifying.
“It makes you feel a little bit uneasy,” the 90-year-old said.
“It upsets you to think that it’s happened close to home.”

Investigators said the woman had been walking for about 20 minutes after visiting her 93-year-old mother who lives nearby.
She was only metres from home when she was attacked.
Powell was arrested at the Colonial Lodge Motel on Fyans Street, one kilometre from the scene.
9News understands the 32-year-old had been living at the motel for about a week.
He has been remanded in custody to appear in court again in August.
