Woman critical, man wounded in shooting, crash in Melbourne

A teenager is fighting for her life and a man is in hospital after a suspected shooting followed by a car crash in Melbourne overnight.

Emergency services were called to the scene after a car and a truck collided near the Hume Freeway ramp and Cooper Street in Epping at about 9.30pm.

One of the occupants of the car, a 23-year-old man, was found to have serious injuries consistent with gunshot wounds.

Another person in the car, an 18-year-old woman, suffered life-threatening injuries in the crash.

Both of them were taken to hospital.

The driver of the truck was not injured and remained on the scene.

A burning car was found a short distance away. (9News)

Police do not believe the truck driver was involved in the 23-year-old man’s shooting.

Police found a car on fire a short distance away on Cooper Street and are investigating to see if it is linked to the shooting and collision.

Investigators remain at the crime scene.
