Authorities report that a man from Kentucky allegedly assaulted his fiancée by forcefully hitting her head against his truck’s mirror after leaving her to join a friend for a ride.
The Laurel County Sheriff’s Office stated that 39-year-old Herb Allen Lovett faces charges of fourth-degree assault. Following his arrest, he was detained at the Laurel County Correctional Center.
According to court records, the incident occurred when Lovett and his fiancée visited Wildcat Offroad Park near East Bernstadt, Kentucky, intending to enjoy off-road vehicle rides together, as reported by the Lexington-based Fox affiliate WDKY.
Instead of following through with their plans, Lovett allegedly abandoned his fiancée to accompany a friend. He returned to find her in the driver’s seat of his truck with the engine running, trying to keep warm in the early hours of Sunday morning, authorities disclosed.
An argument ensued, according to the sheriff’s office, during which Lovett is accused of violently pushing her head into the vehicle’s mirror. He reportedly also “grabbed her around the neck” and dragged her “by her hair while she was on the ground.”
The woman is said to have crawled under a camper to get away, then gone inside the business’s office when it opened. An employee there encouraged her to report the incident, authorities said.
Laurel County sheriff’s deputies arrived at the business off Branch Road later that morning and found the woman. She had a cut on her face, bruising close to her hairline, and marks around her neck, WDKY reported. She was also covered in mud.
Lovett admitted to arguing with his fiancee but did not explain her injuries, per the court records. He was arrested, booked into jail, and later released on a $1,000 bond.
He is scheduled to appear in court on April 21.
