Greylock Partner Among Nine New Members Of Elite Chinese American Group

The Committee of 100, a grouping of elite Chinese Americans ranging from billionaire entrepreneurs to research scientists, has added nine new members, the New York-based organization said on Monday. The new additions come from businesses and organizations as diverse as venture capital and law.

American citizens of Chinese heritage are invited to join and advance the Committee of 100’s dual missions of promoting the participation of Chinese Americans in all aspects of American life and constructive relations between the U.S. and Greater China, the Committee said.

Current Committee of 100 members that appeared on the 2023 Forbes Billionaires List unveiled this month include Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing’s former chairman and CEO Morris Chang, Far Eastern Group Chairman Douglas Hsu, Golden Eagle International Group Chairman Roger Wang, Fortinet CEO Ken Xie, Yahoo co-founder Jerry Yang, and Eric Yuan, the founder and CEO of Zoom.

“These new members reflect our continued dedication to naming diverse and impactful leaders to advance the critical work of our organization’s dual missions,” Gary Locke, Committee of 100 Chair, former U.S. Ambassador to China, and current president of Bellevue College in Washington. Membership of the nine individuals will officially start at the Committee of 100’s Conference & Gala to take place from May 5-6 in Silicon Valley. The group has 144 members, including the new nine.

Here are the biographies of the new group excerpted from today’s announcement:

*Christine Chen was the founding executive director of Asian and Pacific Islander American Vote from 2006-2008 and has since returned to the organization in January 2011 to serve as its current executive director. She currently serves on the Kennedy Center Community visory Board and the Center for Asian American Media.

*Karen Eng is CEO of CSMI, an engineering firm in the FDA and USDA regulated industries. Initially a successful optometrist with a doctorate from the New England College of Optometry, Eng “surprised her family with her bold decision to switch careers and industries and take over the family business,” the Committee of 100 said.

*Jerry Guo is the founder, CEO and chairman of Casa Systems, a provider of 5G wireless technologies and wireline broadband technologies company headquartered in Andover, Massachusetts with more than 1,000 employees in over 30 countries. Guo holds a Ph.D. in electrical engineering from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and an M.S. and B.S. in optical instruments from the department of precision instruments at Tsinghua University in Beijing.

*Daphne Kwok is the vice president of diversity, equity & inclusion, Asian American & Pacific Audience Strategy at AARP. A 1984 graduate of Wesleyan University, Kwok is the first Asian American to serve on its board of trustees, is a trustee emeritus and chaired the Wesleyan Alumni Association.

*Catherine Pan-Giordano is a partner at Dorsey & Whitney LLP, an international law firm with over 110 years of history and 21 offices around the world. She chairs the firm’s U.S.-China practice.

*David Sze is a partner at Greylock Partners, a venture capital firm and 2017 member of the Forbes Midas List. He is on the board of advisors for Northern Lights Venture Capital, Management Leadership for Tomorrow, Questbridge, and McLaren Racing. Sze is also a trustee of Yale University and Rockefeller University.

*Alan K. Tse is the global chief legal officer Jones Lang LaSalle, or JLL, where he leads a team of more than 200 lawyers worldwide. Tse is co-founder and serves on the board of the Asian American Legal Foundation.

*Nora Wu is a trustee member for the University of San Francisco. She chairs the advisory board of USF Center for Business Studies and Innovation in Asia Pacific. Wu additionally serves as a senior advisor to PricewaterhouseCoopers Hong Kong and China firm.

*Charles Zhang is the founder of real estate developer Zion Enterprises. He is also executive in residence at Cal State Fullerton Business School.
