Wordle Today #471 Answer, Hint, Clues For Monday, October 3rd
Share and Follow

Spring Break is officially over here, and not a moment too soon. After all, today is the first day of Spring—and the new season has some new surprises in store. Here, we’re forecasted to get several days of snow! Huzzah!

I mean, what really differentiates Spring from Winter is, um, the snow . . . or something. Yeah, I’m sick of the snow. Just when you think it’s going to finally melt, a new storm swoops in. But I don’t want to complain too much. We badly need it, for one thing. I’ll take snow over devastating wildfires any day of the week.

Also, even though we’ve had more snow than most places in the country, we’re nowhere near as snowed-in as Mammoth Lakes, California:

Mammoth Lakes has gotten 500 inches of snow this winter, which is great for a town built on skiing and snowboarding tourism, but must be an enormous pain for anyone trying to actually get anywhere. What a nightmare!

I’d own a snow-blower for sure. The thought of shoveling that much snow makes me physically ill.

Okay, let’s do this Wordle!

How To Solve Today’s Wordle

The Hint: Fits like one.

The Clue: This word ends in a vowel.

The Answer:

.

.

.

Well, I got this one in four and so did Wordle Bot, and if you’re keeping count that adds up to a whopping zero points for me today (zero for guessing in four and zero for tying the bot). Still, I feel good about this one.

I guessed mages because my weekend has been all about Diablo IV and the new Dungeons & Dragons movie, so lots and lots of magic and adventure. That was a pretty good guess, it turns out, cutting down my potential remaining solutions to just 53.

Weigh wasn’t quite as good—Wordle Bot deigned to tell me that deign would have been a better option—but it did cut that number down to just five, and globe was almost a winner on guess #3. I knew I should have gone with glove! It’s cold outside. It’s spring but it may as well still be winter. This was a relevant and obvious choice! Curses! I should have guessed devil as my opening word (for Diablo IV) that would have gotten me there sooner, I bet. Oh well.

I asked ChatGPT to elucidate us on the etymology of the word ‘glove’ and here’s the answer:

The word “glove” comes from the Old English word “glof”, which is derived from the Old Norse word “glofi”. The Old Norse word originally meant “a covering for the hand”, and it is thought to have been related to the Proto-Germanic word “galofo”, which also meant “covering for the hand”.

Over time, the word “glof” in Old English was modified to “glove” to match the sound changes in the language. The word “glove” has been in use since the 14th century and has remained relatively unchanged in its spelling and meaning.

An oldie but a goodie, in other words.
