Charlie Puth was young when he discovered his ability to have a perfect pitch, a rare quality wherein he can recognize the note for each sound with recall memory. He began working on his music at 12 years of age with self-released CDs and producing beats. Puth attended the Berklee College of Music on a scholarship while simultaneously maintaining his YouTube channel. His brewing popularity caught the attention of Ellen DeGeneres, who signed him onto her record label eleveneleven.
While Charlie Puth didn’t stay on the label for long, he continued to make his own music. Rather than seeing himself as a lead artist, Puth decided to produce tracks for other artists. In 2014, he began producing songs for various artists, and two years later, his featuring on the track See You Again changed everything. From songwriting to producing music, let’s look at the biggest songs Charlie Puth has written for other artists.
10/10 Stay- The Kid Laroi and Justin Bieber
Stay remains the biggest song Charlie Puth has co-written for an artist. Audiences loved the song, and it debuted at No.3 on Billboard Hot 100 and peaked at the top spot for seven weeks. The song broke the record for being the longest-charting single in the top two spots for 20 weeks, surpassing Old Town Road. Puth wrote the lyrics, produced the beats, and played drums for the single.
9/10 Broke- Jason Derulo
Jason Derulo teamed up with Charlie Puth for his fourth studio album, everything Is 4. Puth was a breakout star producer then and had worked in the pop genre before taking on the arduous task of co-writing Broke. As the song featured Stevie Wonder and Keith Urban, he had to write a pop/country track with a collection of different genres to create beats.
8/10 Celebrate- Pitbull
The 2014 computer-animated feature Penguins Of Madagascar appointed Pitbull to create an upbeat single for the kids’ film. It was one of the first songs Puth co-wrote after earning recognition in the industry. Along with its release for the soundtrack, Pitbull later listed the track in his eighth studio album, Globalization.
7/10 Bedroom Floor- Liam Payne
One Direction took a break in 2016, with each member venturing into a solo career, and Liam Payne teamed up with Charlie Puth to create music. The duo collaborated on Bedroom Floor, which Puth wrote, and the music video featured Bella Thorne. It entered the Billboard Hot 100 charts for a week and was released on Payne’s studio album LP1.
6/10 I Do- John Legend
Charlie Puth teamed up with EGOT winner John Legend for his seventh studio album Bigger Love in 2020 to release I Do. The album won a Grammy Award for Best R&B Album at the 2021 Grammy Awards, a win for Puth to cheer on. The duo reunited in 2022 at the iHeartRadio Music Awards to perform a dueling piano medley of their biggest hits.

When creating her second studio album, Zara Larsson took a unique approach as she made each track with a different set of production teams. Her title track featured Ty Dolla $ign, and Puth co-wrote the song alongside Jacob Kasher Hindlin, among other artists. He also co-produced the title track with Danny Boy Styles. The album hit the No.1 spot on the Swedish music charts, Larsson’s home country.
4/10 Lips On You- Maroon 5
Charlie Puth has long been a fan of Maroon 5 and shared many life events that connect with their music. When the opportunity presented itself to create music together, Puth didn’t turn it down. He wanted to keep his involvement in the 2017 single Lips On You a secret so listeners would not have a preconceived notion about the song, but he was credited.
3/10 Older- Alec Benjamin
A SoundCloud celeb, Alec Benjamin, released a song demo on the music-sharing platform in 2020 before taking a year to create Older into an official single. He brought Charlie Puth to co-write alongside Ryan Tedder of One Republic. It was one of the lead singles featured on Benjamin’s North American tour in 2021.
2/10 Easier- Five Seconds Of Summer
The song’s lead single for 5SOS and their fourth studio album earned a nomination for ARIA Award for Best Group. The dark theme and combined falsetto chorus clearly depict Puth’s infamous vocals, which helped elevate the single. Easier became certified platinum in the United States, and the band also released a remix featuring the co-writer Charlie Puth himself.
1/10 Harleys in Hawaii- Katy Perry
Three years after the release of Witness, Katy Perry released her sixth studio album, Smile, in 2020. Initially, Harleys In Hawaii was a standalone single before being added to the album.
