Fans have followed Tammy and Amy Slaton’s miraculous weight-loss journey on 1000-lb. Sisters since 2020. At the very beginning of the TLC show, Tammy weighed 608 pounds, and Amy weighed 406 pounds. Combined, the sisters weighed over 1000 pounds.

Viewers have since followed both sisters’ impressive weight loss with the help of bariatric surgery, and their up-and-down relationship with each other and their family. In Season 7, we learn bigger weight-loss news from Tammy as she reveals that she was “down 500 lbs.” In the latest episode of the season, Tammy gets even better news from doctors pertaining to her desire for skin removal surgery.

This season, Tammy is down 500 pounds and has a better outlook on life. During a trip with her sisters, she takes a dip in the lake and finds that she could fit inside a donut-shaped inner-tube. In another episode, viewers see Tammy take her first-ever zip-lining ride. Tammy has a lot of major firsts this season, and she’s also finally got the answer she’s been waiting for when it comes to getting skin removal surgery.

In Episode 6, Tammy, her brother, Chris Combs, and her sister-in-law, Brittany Combs, travel together to see Dr. Eric Smith, for an update on whether she is finally approved for skin removal surgery. Dr. Smith gives her amazing news: She’s been approved for the surgery.

“You’ve shown me that you can focus on your nutrition, and because of that, I’m giving you the green light to go back to Pittsburgh and get you scheduled to have your skin removed,” he tells her in his office. Dr. Smith tells her that he’s even spoken to the surgeon who is also “on the same page as me.”

Tammy tells the doctor that she’s “relieved” to hear the news. Dr. Smith adds, “Relieved? Good. I mean, Tammy, you’ve put the work in.”

Once hearing her approval news, Dr. Smith suggested that she play a joke on her brother that she was denied again. Stepping out into the waiting room, he tells Chris and Brittany, “Hey, guys, take it easy on her. She’s really upset. OK? She’s really bummed out. Just take it easy on her, OK?” However, once Tammy went into the waiting room she seemed to have forgotten about being in on the joke or was just too excited because she immediately stated, “I got approved.”

Since Episode 1, Tammy has discussed wanting skin removal surgery. In a confessional she shared, “When I look down at myself, I can tell I’ve lost weight. But I still see all this extra hanging skin. It personally makes me feel like I’m ugly.” Fortunately, she’s remained committed to following Dr. Smith’s specific instructions, bringing her closer to finally getting approved.

Tammy’s Doctor Has Been One Of Her Biggest Supporters In Her Weight Loss Journey

Dr. Smith, who was Tammy’s bariatric surgeon, has been a huge supporter of her weight-loss journey. During the episode in which he informs her that she’s been approved for skin removal surgery, he shares with the cameras that he was “super excited” for this next chapter in Tammy’s weight loss.

“I know this is something that she’s wanted for a really long time,” he explains. “It’s not the end of her journey by any means. But it’s kind of that final thing of a reward that I’ve done all this hard work and now I can have this battle scar removed from me,” he said.

Dr. Smith has also shared Tammy’s journey on his Instagram. Just a day before the Season 7 premiere, Dr. Smith shared the clip of Tammy sharing that she had lost 500 pounds.

Tammy Revealed She Was Dating A Woman In Season 7

Season 7 has been full of firsts for Tammy. She’s been stepping out of her comfort zone by trying new experiences, like getting in the water and going zip-lining. She also opened up about a new relationship, revealing that she’s been dating a woman named Andrea. In Episode 1, Tammy shared that she had kept the relationship a secret from her family, confiding only in her sister Amy.

“I have been seeing someone for the past couple months, and it’s going pretty well. I think I want to approach this relationship differently than I have in the past, so I haven’t told my family because my family is going to have something to say about it.”

Tammy meets Andrea at a bowling alley, and it’s the first time she’s gone public with her new partner. Although the two appear to really like each other, Tammy remains “cautious” because she’s used to people using her.

In another episode, Tammy finally shares with her sisters, Amanda Halterman and Misty Slaton Wentworth, that she is dating a woman. To Tammy’s surprise, they couldn’t care less that she was dating a woman. They share that they just want Tammy to be happy.

“I’m really not sure why Tammy feels like we would have a problem with her dating a female. I have a son that’s gay. I don’t care as long as she treats you right,” Amanda tells the cameras. “So for her to pop off and say, ‘Well I know y’all probably don’t agree with me dating a woman,’ I mean I was completely taken aback by it, to be honest. It really surprised me.'”

In fact, both Misty and Amanda tell Tammy that they always believed she would end up with a woman. “If she makes you happy….that’s all we want for each other is just to be happy. That’s all. But I don’t want none of us to stop looking for it. Don’t just settle. Don’t stop until you find exactly what you’re looking for,” Amanda shares.
