D’Andra Simmons took to social media on Tuesday, where she revealed her breast cancer diagnosis.
Accompanied by her fans and entourage, including her husband, Jeremy Lock, 55, and her mother, Dee “Momma Dee” Simmons, the 56-year-old former star of Real Housewives of Dallas disclosed that she was undergoing surgery to remove a tumor and lymph nodes, among other procedures, at the UT Southwestern Simmons Cancer Center.
“Today is the day! I never imagined I would be treated at the UTSW Simmons Cancer Center, which was founded nearly 30 years ago by my uncle Harold Simmons and his Foundation, but here I am battling breast cancer,” D’Andra shared on July 29.
“I’m incredibly thankful for the exceptional medical team caring for me. I’m the third woman in my mother’s family line that we are aware of to receive a breast cancer diagnosis. After today, I’ll proudly join the ranks of breast cancer survivors and look forward to sharing my journey to motivate others. Heartfelt thanks to everyone who’s offered prayers and support to my family and me. We deeply value it and cherish your encouragement,” she added.
Meanwhile, on her Story, D’Andra said she was on the way to the hospital to have her breast cancer surgery.
“Ready to get phase one over with!” she wrote in the caption of a video.
Then, in the video, D’Andra thanked her online audience for their prayers and love.
“I know I haven’t really been talking about it, but today I will. We appreciate you [and] just ready to get this over with. Right, honey?” she asked Jeremy.
“Absolutely. Get that sh*t out of there,” he replied.
According to D’Andra, she was preparing for three procedures, the first of which was a seed localization.
“They go in there and they put a marker in my breast where the tumor is, and that way when the surgeon goes in, they’ll know exactly where to take the tumor out,” she explained.
Then, after moving to another hospital, D’Andra was undergoing a lymph sentinel procedure, where they light up the lymph nodes so the surgeon knows which ones to take out.
“It’s a very busy, packed morning,” she shared.
D’Andra was also getting a lymph node scintigraphy, which involves locating the sentinel lymph node.
As her day continued, D’Andra shared an image of herself with Jeremy and Dee.
“Almost ready to get this surgery started! At least my good friend [Deborah Farr, MD] is doing my surgery today!” she announced.
D’Andra Simmons and her family were featured on The Real Housewives of Dallas from season two through season five.
