The popular BBC One show Escape to the Country returned on Tuesday (18 March) with a brand new episode. This time, the programme followed Caroline, a science teacher from west London, as she searched for her dream home in the picturesque county of Suffolk.
Caroline wanted to escape the hustle and bustle of the city and find a more peaceful spot, but she also needed to be within easy reach of her London-based daughters. Armed with a budget of £350,000, she was on the lookout for a property with high ceilings, a minimum of two bedrooms, and a generously-sized garden.
With her daughter by her side, Caroline joined forces with Escape to the Country presenter Denise Nurse to view three possible properties. The first stop was a modern two-bedroom cottage in Cockfield, available for offers over £300,000.
Caroline noted that the interior fit her requirements, and the place needed no work at all.
Next up was a charming 17th-century semi-detached cottage in Tostock, a Grade-II listed property that required some renovation but boasted a beautiful sprawling garden, two bedrooms, and an excellent location. Although the asking price was £350,000, Caroline felt “torn” while it needed work, the home came close to being “perfect”, reports Suffolk Live.
However, Caroline’s eyes lit up when Denise introduced her to the third and final property, a stunning three-floor home in Walsham le Willows, boasting three bedrooms, a loft room, and an expansive garden.
Caroline was initially rendered speechless by the stunning property, before she praised the lofty ceilings as “perfect” and expressed her admiration for the staircase, adding: “I’m so excited. I love the flooring as well.”
“This is amazing, isn’t it? Wow,” she exclaimed, and was further astonished when Denise disclosed that the house was accepting offers over £335,000, placing it within Caroline’s budget. She had assumed the property would be far beyond her financial reach.
Later in the programme, Denise caught up with Caroline and her daughter to discover the result of their house hunt. Caroline shared that the third home they viewed “fit the bill” perfectly and she had arranged a second viewing, having been so “taken” with the residence.
