Inside Peter Kay's incredible Irish bolthole after star locked in planning row

While comedian Peter Kay is known as the ‘boy from Bolton’, he actually has ties to Ireland, including a countryside bolthole in Tipperary that he owns with his wife. Peter, 52, has spent much of the last two decades visiting the home with his family and even lived there for a period of time during his years out of the limelight, it has been reported.

Peter has had the home for about 20 years and opened up about it on the Late Late Show in 2017. The comedian said: “We used to come over and see family and drive around, so we got a house in Tipperary.”

He went on to explain that he and his family would come over “quite a bit” and enjoy staying in the house during the school holidays. Peter added: “We give Christmas a miss because the house is freezing.” However, he joked that he doesn’t like to talk much about the house, because he doesn’t want to “get robbed”. Peter’s mother, Deirdre, is from Coalisland in Co Tyrone, while Peter himself was born in Farnworth, Lancashire.

During Peter’s break from the limelight, it was reported that he was staying in the Tipperary house. One local told The Sun that the comedian clearly “wanted to keep a low profile” and did everything possible to avoid “attracting attention to himself”.

Earlier this year, Peter found himself in a boundary dispute with a neighbour over a strip of land which allows him to access his driveway. A hearing of the case presented by the neighbour, Michael Quigley, was listed to take place at Nenagh Civil Court on February 18th. When approached for comment by the Mail on Sunday, Mr Quigley declined to discuss the case. Peter was also approached by the outlet.

According to the Mail, another neighbour said that Peter and his wife, Susan, had “really put down roots” in the area. They said: “They use the house as an escape, and it’s very isolated, so it’s not like we see much of them.”

Express.co.uk has contacted Peter’s representatives for comment.

Peter is currently on his Better Late Than Never Tour, with shows in Glasgow, Liverpool and Nottingham scheduled over the next few months. The tour will continue into 2026, when the comedian will head to Brighton, Bournemouth, Cardiff, and the Isle of Man.

Earlier this year, he announced that his upcoming autobiography would be released on October 9th. The cover describes the book as a “monthly memoir of a boy from Bolton”. Peter said: “Think of this autobiography as a twelve-month subscription to my memories and meanderings across the calendar year. With each month reflecting a different phase of my life, complete with dodgy decisions, bizarre plot twists and more than a few laugh-out-loud moments.”
