The Harder They Fall star started her acting career on the stage. Deadwyler began with minor roles in local theater productions in Atlanta, but over time, she morphed in range, earning a notable role as the Lady in Yellow in For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide / When the Rainbow Is Enuf.

Eventually,Deadwyler transitioned to films in 2012, with a lead role as a homeless, alcoholic mother in the drama A Cross to Bear.

Danielle Deadwyler enjoys getting an education as much as she loves being on the screen. After completing her education at Grady High School, the actor proceeded to Spelman College, where she earned a B.A. in History.

But that was only the beginning for The Haves and the Have Nots star; she pursued a master’s degree in American Studies, Interdisciplinary Studies from Columbia University in the City of New York and an M.F.A. degree in Creative Writing/Poetry from Ashland University.

Danielle Deadwyler’s love for education wasn’t only rooted in bagging degrees; it translated to sharing her knowledge. The Station Eleven star was an elementary school teacher for two years before leaving to pursue her dreams of exploring the arts.

“I did the academic thing, taught elementary school for two years, traversed back to saying, ‘No, the arts is the defining quality of my life,” she shared in WGWG’s Danielle Deadwyler’s interview.

5/8 Does Danielle Deadwyler Have A Family?

This might come as a shock to many, but the 40-year-old actress is married to her husband, Reggie Haslam. However, little is known about their dating timeline or wedding date due to their highly private nature.

Per his LinkedIn profile, Haslam appears to be breaking ground like his wife; he owns a company that provides transportation, staffing, and facility support services for private clients and government agencies. The couple is parents to 10-year-old Ezra Haslam.

In her experimental play titled RIP, Danielle Deadwyler explored how lines are blurred in the labor of Black women and how it impacts their bodies.
