After being in the entertainment industry for over two decades, there certainly have been times when fame has impacted Selena Gomez’s mental health and relationships. Selena was famously in an on-and-off relationship with Justin Bieber from 2010 to 2018. In fact, she recently took a photo with Justin’s wife, Hailey Bieber, in what seemed to be an attempt to put to rest any rumors of a feud between the two of them.
Selena also recently released her documentary My Mind & Me on Apple TV+. The documentary gives Selena’s fans a behind-the-scenes look into her mental health journey, her struggles with lupus, her friendships, and her relationships with her family. Selena Gomez and Francia Raísa became friends after they both participated in a Disney/ABC Family children’s hospital visit in 2007. At the time, Selena Gomez was working with Disney. Francia has worked with Freeform for many years, starting when the popular channel was known as ABC Family. Francia has starred on The Secret Life of the American Teenager and more recently on Grown-ish. In a 2013 interview with Latina magazine, Francia shared that, upon meeting, she and Selena “just clicked.”
7/8 Selena Gomez Revealed That Francia Raísa Was Her Kidney Donor In 2017
In September 2017, Selena Gomez revealed that she had undergone a lupus-related kidney transplant and that her fellow actress and then-housemate, Francia Raísa, was her donor. In an emotional Instagram post, Selena publicly thanked Francia for her donation. She wrote, “There aren’t words to describe how I can possibly thank my beautiful friend Francia Raisa. She gave me the ultimate gift and sacrifice.” Selena went on to refer to Francia as “sis.”
6/8 Francia Raísa Presented Selena Gomez With Billboard’s Woman Of The Year Award
Shortly after revealing the transplant news, Francia Raísa and Selena Gomez’s transplant experience and relationship received a lot of media coverage. They both gave an emotional interview with TODAY to discuss the transplant. In November 2017, Francia Raísa presented Selena Gomez with the “Woman of the Year” award at the Billboard Women in Music ceremony. While presenting Selena with the award, Francia said, “When I found out I was a match for Selena, I didn’t think twice about it.”

5/8 Selena Gomez And Francia Raísa Got A Matching Tattoo
Selena Gomez has accumulated several tattoos over the years, and her collection includes a matching tattoo with Francia Raísa. In a December 2019 interview with Capital FM, Selena revealed that she and Francia got a tattoo of the date of the kidney transplant. Selena also has matching tattoos with Julia Michaels and other friends.

Despite appearing really close after the transplant, some fans began to question whether Selena Gomez and Francia Raísa were as close in recent years. However, in July, Selena and Francia filmed a funny TikTok together, participating in the “He’s a 10” challenge. Francia also attended Selena’s star-studded wedding-themed 30th birthday party.
3/8 Selena Gomez Recently Said That Taylor Swift Is Her ‘Only Friend In The Industry’
More recently, Selena Gomez has been doing a lot of press related to the release of her new documentary, My Mind & Me. In an interview with Rolling Stone, Selena said that Taylor Swift was her “only friend in the industry.” She continued, “I remember feeling like I didn’t belong. I felt the presence of everyone around me living full lives. I had this position, and I was really happy, but…was I?”
Francia Raísa did not seem to appreciate Selena Gomez’s comment about Taylor Swift being her “only friend in the industry.” Though Selena could have been referring to the music industry specifically, this comment shocked some because Francia works in the entertainment industry too. When E! shared Selena’s quote on their Instagram, Francia commented “Interesting.” Though Francia eventually deleted that comment, she also unfollowed Selena.
1/8 Selena Responded To The Controversy On TikTok
Despite the controversy, Selena Gomez still follows Francia Raísa on Instagram. However, Selena did clap back at a TikTok that criticized her for not mentioning Francia and other industry friends in the Rolling Stone interview. She commented, “Sorry I didn’t mention every person I know.” It is unclear if Selena and Francia have resolved this conflict behind the scenes.
