Interviews come with a lot of pressure. In fact, many high profile celebs refuse to do them. Beyoncé is an example, as the artist chooses to express herself through music, or essays. Kate Moss also stopped doing interviews, she deemed that publications already had a headline in mind prior to her sitting down for an interview.
Interviews also come with judgment. Kyle and Jackie O banned Matt LeBlanc from their show given that he wasn’t exactly acting like Joey from Friends, and instead, was much more quiet and reserved.
In Steve-O’s case alongside Adam Carolla, he was far from quiet and reserved… Instead, Steve O was completely intoxicated during the interview. Thankfully, the Jackass star is sober today. We’ll reveal his sobriety journey, along with taking a look back at his forgetful interview.
In addition, we’re going to close off by taking a look at other interviews that went off the rails because of an intoxicated actor. Again, it is key to note that those actors are also sober today.
Steve-O Has Now Been Sober For The Last 14 Years
Steve-O’s struggles were apparent back in the day, however, thankfully today the Jackass star is completely sober and has been in this state for 14 years.
The biggest key for Steve-O in his journey was understanding that he can’t do things in moderation.
He revealed with People while promoting his memoir:
“It’s been more of an exercise in just understanding that I don’t know how to rein anything in and just kind of accepting that moderation is not my strong suit,” Steve-O says. “Accepting who you are, and what about that is not gonna change, I think is a big part of it for me. I’ve come to accept that I’m never gonna be a moderation guy.”
Another key for Steve-O was surrendering to the process of rehab.
“As it relates to addictions, I think that it’s about sort of surrendering to the process of recovery… the first step in the 12 steps being admitting that we’re powerless in our lives. We admit defeat, you know? And you surrender when you’ve been defeated. So that’s kinda how you address addiction.”

Although Steve-O is back on his feet these days, healthier than ever, that wasn’t always the case.
Steve-O Was Completely Intoxicated During His Interview With Adam Carolla, But The Host Did His Best To Keep Things Moving
Credit to Adam Carolla who kept his cool throughout the interview, despite things going off the rails. In the video below, we can see Steve-O completely out of it, attempting to flip the chair with Carolla on it. Making matters more uncomfortable, he proceeds to smash the coffee table, which Carolla hilariously revealed was a rental.
According to users on Reddit, Carolla was encouraged to cut the interview short by those behind the scenes.
“He also mentioned that the producers wanted them to stop filming or not air it but Adam insisted that they air it cause it did end up being the most memorable episode of the show.”
Thankfully, Steve-O and Adam Carolla are on great terms these days, and two have appeared on each other’s podcasts in the recent years. Steve-O would also admit to being intoxicated on other interviews as well, including a shot in the UK called, 24 Hours With…
In truth, Steve-O is far from the only celeb to enter an interview completely intoxicated.
Steve-O Is Far From The Only Celeb To Enter And Interview Completely Intoxicated
Dax Shepard is another name that comes to mind when thinking about interviews that were completely derailed, due to intoxication. Looking back, Shepard revealed he woke up 20-minutes before his interview with Conan O’Brien. The interview went so bad, that the actor was banned for years until he got sober.
Shepard recalls the details, “I show up on the show, I don’t know what he’s talking about. I can tell he’s queuing me up for stories I’ve told, but I don’t know any of the stories. So, I’m just doing what I can to be funny out there and I am a mess.”
“It was fine for the audience. But for him, what a disaster. I didn’t know any of the stories,” he remembers. “So I was banned from that show for some years, until I got sober and I got myself back on it and now I’ve been on it a bazillion times.”
Another mention goes to John Stamos, who was completely out of it during his interview on Australian television. His team tried to pass it off as jetlag, but the actor admitted it was more than that. Thankfully, like Steve-O and Shepard, Stamos is sober these days.
