Mayim Bialik, who started her acting career as a child, is a well-known actress, author, game show host, and neuroscientist who has made a name for herself in the entertainment industry. She played the title character of the NBC sitcom Blossom and is best known for her role as Amy Farrah Fowler on the hit TV show The Big Bang Theory.
However, she explored different career paths and eventually landed a surprising job after taking hiatus from the entertainment industry. During an appearance on The Jennifer Hudson Show, Mayim revealed that she taught sex education to high school students after taking a break from acting.
Mayim Bialik Reveals Her Surprising Job
Mayim Bialik explained during her appearance in the show that she left the entertainment industry after working on Blossom.
She explained, “I worked on Blossom from the time I was 14 to 19. I left the industry for nine years. I went to college, I went to grad school, I had two kids. So I was like out of the industry and then I came back to the industry and I was in Big Bang Theory.”
She added, “But before, I would do the things that people do when they’re in college and grad school.” During her hiatus, Mayim tutored various subjects, including Hebrew and piano. She also tutored high school biology, which included teaching sex education to a group of high school students.
Surprisingly, Mayim landed a job teaching students about sex education. She said, “I taught in the homeschool community. There’s a Jewish homeschool community that meets in Los Angeles and so many of these kids were raised religious and they never had really any kind of sex ed.”
According to the actress, many of the students had not received any prior sex education due to their religious upbringing. Despite being recognized by some of their parents as the former star of “Blossom,” the students themselves were unaware of her previous career.
“And they were too young to know me from television. Their parents were like ‘Blossom is teaching our kid,’ but they didn’t know,” she added.
This is not the first time Mayim has ventured into academia. Last May, she appeared on The Kelly Clarkson Show and discussed how she designed a neuroscience curriculum for junior high and high school homeschooled students, similar to her character on The Big Bang Theory.
Indeed, her diverse career path is a testament to her intelligence and versatility. While her acting roles have been widely celebrated, her dedication to education and advocacy is just as noteworthy.

Mayim Bialik Reveals Her Dream Job Ever
Mayim Bialik has achieved great success in her career as an actress, neuroscientist, and author. However, her dream job has always been to host a game show, and she is living that dream as a guest host on the iconic game show, Jeopardy!
In a 2021 interview, the actress confirmed that she wants to be the permanent full-time host of the game show as it is her dream job. She said, “There’s no other job I would rather have. I love my sitcom work, I do. I love all the other things I do. I love the podcast. But I absolutely have never had a better job…The use of my brains and my skillset feels best suited by this job on Jeopardy!”
Mayim also revealed, “It is a dream job. I think it’s a dream job for anyone, but especially for someone who is trained first as performer and then as a science communicator.” She expressed her love for game shows and her desire to host one.
She explained that hosting a game show requires a combination of intelligence, humor, and a genuine interest in the contestants, and she believes that she possesses these qualities.
Fortunately, in 2022, Mayim signed a new deal with the game show, making her a permanent host moving forward. She will continue to split the duties with her co-host Ken Jennings, who also has been a regular host for the past year.
In announcing the hosts, Jeopardy! executive producer Michael Davies said in an interview, “In Mayim and Ken, we have two outstanding hosts at the beginning of their Jeopardy! hosting careers who connect with their own unique fanbases, new fans, and the traditional Jeopardy! viewer.
He also described the two “extraordinarily talented” hosts as “simply lovely humans” who “love and respect this institution of a television program.” He added, “In return, the staff and I are honored to work alongside them.”
Despite her many achievements, Mayim Bialik has never forgotten her love for game shows and her dream of hosting one. With her successful tenure as a host on Jeopardy!, she has proven that she has what it takes to excel in the role.
