Alabama Barker's First Reality TV Appearance Was As A Baby

Alabama Barker is the daughter of rock star Travis Barker and his ex-wife Shanna Moakler. Her birth was the premise for the finale episode of her parents’ MTV reality series Meet The Barkers. Yes, you read that right. Alabama’s very first moments were spent on television.

It should then come as no surprise that Alabama is now appearing on The Kardashians and even starting a music career. She also appeared on the popular YouTube series Kids React and gained a following from posting makeup tutorials. Alabama has even bonded with stepmother Kourtney Kardashian and seems very comfortable in front of the camera.

Alabama’s Birth Was Documented On Her Parents’ Reality Show Meet The Barkers

Many celebrity offspring have been in front of the world spotlight since their birth. However, when it comes to Alabama Barker, her spotlight was much brighter than most. Her birth was part of the storyline in the finale of her parents’ reality series, Meet The Barkers.

The series followed Travis Barker, Shanna Moakler and their family lives. The show aired on MTV for two seasons and ended in 2006. Five months later, Travis filed for divorce from Shanna in August. Travis would go on to say he wished he could’ve kept his children private and is doing things differently with Rocky, his son with Kourtney Kardashian.

In February 2022, Shanna spoke to Entertainment Tonight about her and Travis’ co-parenting relationship. “My children are my first priority and, that’s one thing that I think Travis and I do agree on,” she said. “That’s probably the only thing we agree on, but our children come first and their happiness. As long as the Kardashians are good to my kids, that’s all that matters to me as a mom. As long as they’re happy, that’s the key.”

In May 2024, she continued to speak kindly about Travis and his new family during an interview on Jeff Lewis Live. “I’m happy for him. I think, you know, he’s in a good place… The kids love the new baby, Rocky,” she said. “My daughter’s obsessed with him and sends cute pictures.”

However, the kind words didn’t last long. Shanna spoke with People in an explosive interview mere months later where she accused Travis and his new wife of alienating her from the kids. “I’m not a deadbeat mom. I have a very close relationship with my children who are now adults, and I have been present in their lives, except during COVID lockdown,” Shanna said. “They have both taken back what they said about me and apologized.”

She spoke specifically about Meet The Barkers and claimed the series portrayed her in an unflattering light which wasn’t truthful.

“Meet the Barkers does not dictate me as a mother. I was rocking three babies under the age of five and pregnant all of one season and up at all hours,” she said. “I did not sleep all the time. It was a TV show 20 years ago. Bama has been staying at my house until the time she was 18. We share a very special relationship, and Landon is a great drummer and a lead singer. My oldest daughter was born and raised in the Oaks, and I love her.”

In January 2024, Shanna appeared on Bunnie XO’s Dumb Blonde podcast where she took shots at Kourtney. “I think when the Kardashians first came around, [my kids] were enamored, just as like young kids would be enamored by them… I think there’s a lot of glitter and fame,” she recalls. “They watched them on TV and now their dad’s dating one and they’re going to be on the show. I think they got caught up in that, which young kids would do.”

However, she didn’t stop there. Shanna proceeded to call the entire Kardashian clan “disgusting.” She said, “I removed myself so that they couldn’t bond over my children hating me.” Shanna said there was “parental alienation going on” which started from the time Travis and Kourtney began dating.

In her conversation with People, Shanna explained that the podcast appearance caused even further divide between her and Travis. “We don’t speak anymore,” she said. “I don’t have a relationship with Travis, but I think that’s OK,” she continued. “I don’t feel like it’ll be like that forever, but I feel like right now — I think that’s where we are at in our evolution, and maybe in the future, it’ll change.” When commenting about the Kardashians, she said, “I also don’t have to like the f****** Kardashians, and I’m honestly sick of talking about them.”

Alabama Appeared On The YouTube Series Kids React When She Was A Little Girl

In 2018, a 13-year-old Alabama Barker appeared in the popular Emmy-winning YouTube series Kids React. The web show was part of the React series, founded by Benny and Rafi Fine, also known as The Fine Brothers. The episodes feature kids reacting to various subjects and being questioned about what they have just watched. The Fine Brothers were a big part of YouTube’s early period, taking over the platform with comedy skits and other memorable videos.

They began making reaction content and soon developed an entire channel around the concept. In 2021, the brothers spoke to The Daily Dot about their career online. “We’ve always had a passion for championing people’s individuality and giving them a voice, so we wanted to make a show that could give people an outlet to share their opinions that could have an audience learn, laugh, and even cry along with them barring the topic,” the Fine Brothers wrote in an email interview. “This comes from our religious upbringing that hindered our ability to be who we wanted to become and a lot of our content scripted and unscripted reflect the idea of embracing who you are.”

The series was sometimes compared to Kids Say The Darndest Things. However, the Fine Brothers say their show was different, because the kids were actually allowed to offer their perspective. What followed, they say, was a moment where the viewer may have actually learned something from the children who were featured. The reception was so positive, they even began Teens React. This led to Adults React, Elders React, and even YouTubers React.

And the episodes aren’t all about trivial, lighthearted subjects. Sometimes the videos can touch on topical issues in the news or even serious matters like bullying. “All of the serious topics always have hit us hard, especially when these amazing people we have been so lucky to cast onto our series allow themselves to open up and talk plainly about issues most people keep to themselves,” they said. “The major issue of our time for young people is the Internet’s effect on bullying, social dynamics and more. The media, parents, and schools truly do not understand what is going on, how bad it is, and a lot more education is needed.”

They would go on to win the 2012 Daytime Emmy for Best Viral Video Series for Kids React. However, despite this win, the brothers believe it is still difficult for web content to be taken seriously, especially if it comes from YouTube.

“Not a lot has changed [after winning the Emmy] other than realizing that there are shows on YouTube like React that can get similar if not better viewership than mainstream entertainment can,” the brothers said. “We wish it wasn’t so old media big business, but it is. You don’t need them, they need you, and you can become a partner through YouTube without them anyway.”

When asked how their React series became so successful, the Fine Brothers said it was due to the honesty in each episode. “Even when you look beyond the ultra serious subject matter, you can find elements of deep discussion in almost every episode of the series which is part of what these shows are all about and is what has made them successful—which is shedding light on tough issues and getting a conversation started, something we don’t do nearly enough,” they explained.

The brothers added, “We handle the topics with objectivity and care in hopes to connect with the viewers and have it leave a lasting resonance.”

Alabama Recently Appeared On An Episode Of The Kardashians

Alabama also appeared on her stepmother’s reality show The Kardashians. The recent appearance was only one part of the content she would be part of with Kourtney. Kourtney and Travis would also make appearances in Alabama’s debut music video “Vogue.” To celebrate the release of her first venture into the music world, Alabama spoke to Paper Magazine about this latest chapter in her career.

“The music video’s inspiration was entirely my vision from the ground up,” Alabama told the outlet. “I creatively directed the entire project from start to finish, ensuring every detail perfectly aligned with my ideas. I’m very particular about my craft, and it was crucial to me that everything — from the concept to the final cut — reflected exactly what I envisioned. This project is a true expression of who I am, so when you watch the music video, you’re seeing a piece of my creativity come to life.”

When asked what the song represents to her, Alabama was clear about her intentions. “‘Vogue’ is such a fun and culturally rich record,” she said. “It embodies youth, creativity and a sense of girlhood that’s super relatable. Whether you’re getting ready for a night out, hyping yourself up, or just in need of good vibes, this song is your go-to anthem.”

And it should come as no surprise that she was inspired to get into the music business thanks to her famous dad. “Growing up with my dad’s music, I was surrounded by so much passion and creativity,” Alabama explained. “He’s been my biggest inspiration —not just musically, but in how he approaches his craft and work ethic. Now that I’ve discovered my own love for music, I’m carving out my own sound and journey while honoring everything he’s taught me.”

Alabama made sure to let people know that she wasn’t finished and has a lot more planned for the year ahead. “I’ve been in the studio constantly, experimenting with rapping, singing, and exploring new sounds — I don’t want to be put in a box,” she said. “2025 is going to have more music from me, but I’m also excited about other ventures like beauty, acting and even hair projects. The possibilities are endless as long as I keep pushing myself.”
