Alanis Morissette axed her performance at the 37th Annual Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony in Los Angeles at the eleventh hour, we’re told.
The “You Oughta Know” singer was set to perform Carly Simon’s “You’re So Vain” along with Olivia Rodrigo, but she “bowed out last minute” after rehearsal on Friday, an insider told Page Six.
“When she ran through it the first time with Olivia, it seemed like they weren’t prepared,” the insider said.
Simon’s guitarist, Jimmy Ryan, leaked that Morissette was performing last month in a since-deleted Facebook post. But the Hall of Fame never officially confirmed her as one of the performers.
After Friday’s rehearsal, organizers received notification that Morissette “has chosen not to perform,” our insider shared.
Morissette addressed her last-minute cancellation in a lengthy Instagram post on Monday, beginning her post by mentioning how much she adores Simon, Rodrigo and all the other “amazing people and artists” who were in attendance at the ceremony.
“I have spent decades in an industry that is rife with an overarching anti-woman sentiment and have tolerated a lot of condescension and disrespectfulness, reduction, dismissiveness, contract-breaching, unsupportiveness, exploitation and psychological violence (and more) throughout my career,” she wrote. “I tolerated it because nothing would stop me from connecting with those who I cared about and resonated with. I live to serve and connect with people and so over the years I sucked it up on more occasions than I can count in order to do so. It’s hard not to be affected in any industry around the world, but Hollywood has been notorious for its disrespect of the feminine in all of us.”
She continued by saying she’s at a point in her life where there “is no need for me to spend time in an environment that reduces women.”
“I have had countless incredible experiences with production teams with all genders throughout my life. So many, and so fun,” she added. “There is nothing better than a team of diverse people coming together with one mission. I’ll continue to show up in those environments with bells on.”

The show went on with Rodrigo performing her own rendition of Simon’s 1972 classic. Another source, who attended the ceremony which officially airs Nov. 19 on HBO, told us, “she kicked ass!”
Sara Bareilles also honored Simon by performing the 1977 ballad, and James Bond theme, “Nobody Does It Better.” Simon did not attend due to the recent deaths of her sisters, who both died from cancer last month. Bareilles accepted the honor on her behalf.
Also at the ceremony, rocker John Mellencamp helped induct his longtime lawyer Allen Grubman. The “Hurts So Good” singer implored the crowd to speak out against anti-Semitism as “silence is complicity.”
Another insider told us that Mellencamp had a chat with Grubman before the speech and told him, “I am not going to tell you what I am going to say in a few minutes, but it needs to be said and its going to get people’s attention all over the world.”
Meanwhile, country legend Dolly Parton was soaking up all of the attention backstage with stars like Pink, Sheryl Crow, Brandi Carlile and Rodrigo swooning over her.
“They were fangirling over her before the show, and after a group photo each of the performers snapped their own individual photos with Dolly,” our first insider said.
Janet Jackson, who was inducted in 2019, was at the ceremony to honor “my extended brothers and closest artistic collaborators, Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis,” she said during her speech. Jackson paid homage to their debut album together by recreating the look of their 1986 recording, “Control.”
We hear she later hosted an afterparty at the West Hollywood Edition, where D-Nice mostly spun Jackson’s Jam and Lewis-produced tunes.
SiriusXM’s Bevy Smith returned for the second year to host the red carpet on the Rock Hall’s YouTube channel.
