After losing her husband at a young age, Amanda Kloots is sharing a message of hope for Charlie Kirk’s widow, Erika Kirk.

In Us Weekly’s exclusive sneak peek of the Tuesday, September 23, episode of host Richard Taite’s “We’re Out of Time” podcast, Kloots, 43, remembered the advice she received from late husband Nick Cordero’s family.

“My late mother-in-law, Nick’s mother, told me when Nick was in the hospital, she said, ‘[Your son] Elvis will save you, and his smile every day will make you want to get up and live.’ It’s true,” Kloots shared in a preview. “And that’s what I would tell [Erika] — that your kids, like, you have a purpose.”

In July 2020, Cordero — who shared Elvis, now 6, with Kloots — died after suffering from coronavirus complications. He was 41.

According to Kloots, she went through a time when she had more questions than answers about her future.

“You go through this time where you’re like, ‘What’s my purpose? Why did this happen?’” she recalled. “I told Nick when he died, I was like, ‘I will be the best mom to this kid. I will show [him] the world.’”

Kloots began to cry as she filmed the podcast episode on September 17, which falls on her late husband’s birthday.

“It’s a tough day, but you want to know what? You are a good mother,” Taite told his guest. “I can tell. You’re very present. He’s your whole world, and you’ve honored this man. I can tell you, he’d be very, very proud. That I’m certain of.”

Over the weekend, Charlie was honored during a public memorial service at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona.

During the event, Erika, 36, had the opportunity to deliver a moving eulogy for her late husband. At one point in her speech, the mother of two said she forgave her husband’s killer.

“I forgive him because it was what Christ did, and it’s what Charlie would do,” she said while holding back tears. “The answer to hate is not hate. The answer we know from the gospel is love and always love. Love for our enemies and love for those who persecute us.”

Charlie was shot and killed during a speaking engagement at Utah Valley University on September 10. He was 31.

Tyler Robinson has been accused of shooting Charlie and is being held at the Utah County Jail without bail.

As Erika tries to move forward, Kloots is grateful that she has found support and new friendships with other widows.

“I literally was on the way here talking to one of my really good widow friends, and I texted her,” Kloots said. “I said, ‘Are birthdays one of your hardest days?’ She said, ‘Oh my God, yes.’ And I was like, ‘OK, so I’m not crazy.’ I’m meeting a new widow tomorrow. She lost her husband a couple of weeks ago. We’re going on a walk. I try to take widows on walks. I call them widow walks.”

If Kloots had her way, there would be another word to describe a woman who has lost her spouse by death and has not remarried.

“Widow comes from a Greek word that means sad and lonely,” she said. “Every widow I meet, yes, you’re sad. You’re lonely, but you’re also very strong and resilient. You have to take your life back. Then I changed it to the word rennovar, which means ‘powering forward.’”
