Teen Mom star Amber Portwood is still struggling with the pain of her split from ex-fiancé Gary Wayt.
“I’m more than heartbroken,” the MTV personality, 34, said during the Thursday, February 6, episode of Teen Mom: The Next Chapter. “I’m f–ked up from what happened, what he did to me. Like, we’re talking trauma.”
In June 2024, Gary, 39, was reported missing while he and Amber were in North Carolina for a family member’s wedding. His disappearance came shortly after the former couple got engaged. As police searched for the Indiana native, fans accused Amber of killing Gary, but he was found alive and well days later. The pair split less than one month later.
“Being told you’re a murderer and thinking that your fiancé is dead, I did not sleep for four days, I did not eat,” Amber said on the show. “That’s just the truth.”
After Gary was reported missing on June 9, 2024, Amber revealed that he had left their rental home after they had an “emotional” conversation.
“This is a huge deal, his parents, everybody is very worried. I am worried. There was not a big blowout fight or anything like that. He is a missing person right now,” she said in a YouTube video at the time. “It had something to do with the fact of his parents being Vietnamese and me being who I am. Nobody has found or heard from him yet. I’m trying my best to not think the worst. I have not ate [sic] in three days. I slept maybe an hour.”

The Bryson City Police Department in North Carolina confirmed on June 14 that Gary had been “located” after he was spotted in Oklahoma.
Amber and Gary ended their engagement weeks after his disappearance, Us Weekly reported on June 25, 2024.
“They’ve decided that it’s over between them and their engagement is off,” a source told the outlet. “They have too much to overcome to move forward together.”
The insider clarified that Gary did not “ghost” Amber amid reports that she hadn’t spoken to him at all since he was found after his disappearance. However, they added that the split was the “best thing” for the former couple.
“She is sad because she cares about him, but she is willing to see that he is not the right guy for her,” the source continued. “She wants to be with someone who accepts her fully.”
Soon after his split from Amber, Gary reportedly got engaged to a new woman. He allegedly proposed to his new love at a Seattle restaurant in August 2024, Teen Mom fan Instagram account TeenMomFanz reported at the time.
Meanwhile, Amber seemingly focused on healing after their breakup. She reflected on the experience of Gary’s disappearance and how much harm it did her in a conversation with executive producer Kiki Malone during a September 2024 episode of The Next Chapter.
“This man broke me,” Amber said before heading to a psychiatry appointment. “I was stable. Right now, this is the first time in years in my life — I am 34 — I am not f–king right because a man put a ring on my finger. You broke me because we were actually in love.”
