It is hard to believe that Billie Eilish is still only 21 year of age. In 2020, she became the youngest person to feature on the Forbes Celebrity 100 list with her huge earnings, and we only expect that number to increase moving forward.
As we’ll reveal in the following, a major reason for Eilish’s success has to do with her collabs in the past. We’ll take a closer look at her top collaborations, along with taking a look at an A-list artist that turned the offer down before Eilish exploded. Credit to the artist for telling the story, and she made it clear it was a major regret of hers. We’re also going to feature another artist that also turned down the possible collab with Eilish, but did so for different creative reasons.
Billie Eilish Had Positive Experiences Doing Collaborations, Especially With Her Brother
Billie Eilish credits her career success to a couple of things. Among them, is listening to her gut when it comes to creative decisions. However, she’s also thankful for a collaboration alongside her brother. Eilish revealed that her career would not be the same had she ventured off and partnered with someone else.
“I think maybe sticking to my own ideas and treatments for like videos, all my own ideas for like artwork,” she said. “I think another one is like making music with my brother, and not a bunch of randos. There’s nothing wrong with that: it’s just, for me, I don’t think it would have ended out good.”
“I think my brother and I really have used that over the years and realised that it’s like, you don’t have to say yes to everything. Even if it’s going to give you way more money, it’s like you’ve got to do what you think is going to help you, or you think is right for you.”
Working alongside Eilish seems to be just as rewarding. Labrinth raved about his experience alongside the artist and jumped at the opportunity.
“I’ve been a fan of Billie for a long time,” McKenzie revealed. “I think she’s an amazing artist. I remember Noah [Cyrus] was doing some of the same shows Billie was in that time, and everybody kept on coming back talking about this Billie Eilish girl.”
“Once I started piecing the song together, I was just like, “Do you know what? I think this is the moment where I think Billie would be a sick addition,’” he said. “When we spoke, she was like, ‘Lab, I’ve been listening to your music for years.” I was like, ‘What?’ It was like, ‘Billie? What? You?’ She was like, ‘Yeah, been a fan.’ She was like, ‘I love this song as well, so I would love to do it with you.’”
It was quite the moment for the artist but as it turns out, not every talent was as enthusiastic about the collab.
Katy Perry Admitted To Making A Mistake When She Was Pitched A Collab With Billie Eilish
Credit to Katy Perry for her honesty, as other artists likely would refrain from revealing this monumental blunder. Nonetheless, Perry was honest with what had taken place. She was told to work alongside Eilish by her own team given the potential of the artist. After listening to her work, Katy decided to pass.

She revealed, “She sent me an email one time that was, ‘Hey check out this new artist, I’d really like us to work with her’… and it was a song called ‘Ocean Eyes’ and it was just a blonde girl, and I was like, ‘Meh, boring.’”
Perry admitted she made a big mistake and jokingly said she didn’t want her comments to make the rounds online. “Big mistake. Huge mistake! Don’t let this hit the Internet.”
At the very least Katy Perry can sleep a little better knowing she wasn’t the only person who turned down the chance to work alongside Eilish.
Doja Cat Is Another Artist Than Turned Down A Collaboration With Billie Eilish But For Different Reasons
Doja Cat was honored with the collab request for the song, Bellyache. The track enjoyed major success, however, Doja Cat showed little regrets about turning the opportunity down. According to the artist, she could not contribute to the track creatively at the time.
“I remember thinking it was so cute. Just couldn’t think of anything to write”. She adds: “It was one of my writer’s-block moments.”
Nonetheless, Doja Cat knew she made the right decision seeing from afar how successful the song became without her input.
“I remember seeing that song blow up and thinking, ‘Good for her. That’s awesome,’” she says. “I don’t think the song was for me, though. It was quite hard to write to.”
Clearly these days, artists are thinking twice when Billie Eilish comes calling about a possible collaboration…
