WWHL's Andy Cohen Was Just Honored In The Most Iconic Way

Andy Cohen has solidified his reputation as the king of reality television. As a leading figure at Bravo, he consistently delivers the latest scoop on The Real Housewives universe, keeping fans constantly craving more insider information.

This week, Andy achieved a unique recognition that stands out from previous accolades. In a playful tribute to the campy and occasionally audacious nature of his talk show, Watch What Happens Live, he was presented with a literal trash can emblazoned with his name.

During a tongue-in-cheek ceremony in Hudson Square, where Andy’s show is recorded, he graciously accepted this quirky award: a rectangular trash can labeled “Andy Cohen’s Corner.” On the opposite side, the trash can cleverly promotes his show with the phrase “Watch What Happens Live on this Corner.”

Andy Was Presented The Trash Can As An Award

In a mock award ceremony, held in the neighborhood where Andy films his show, Hudson Square, Andy graciously accepted his prize: a rectangular trash can with the words “Andy Cohen’s Corner” plastered down the side. The other side of the trash can simply promotes his show, reading “Watch What Happens Live on this Corner.”

As reported by The New York Times, Andy gave some appreciative remarks about the very special, very New York award:

This is hilarious and ironic and layered and wonderful, and I very much believe in picking up trash, so I’m proud to have my name on this trash can right here on this corner… You think Stephen Colbert has a trash can named after him? He doesn’t.

Though the ceremony was largely full of jokes, the reality TV icon also got a more serious award. In attendance for the ceremony was Manhattan Borough President Brad Hoylman-Sigal. Brad handed a plaque over to Andy, which officially deemed January 6th to be “Andy Cohen Day.”

The teasing didn’t stop there, either. Andy was also handed a key to the city, which, Brad later told him, opens “absolutely nothing.”

All joking aside, in a more serious moment, Andy did say that he hoped his new honor would encourage people to throw their trash away instead of littering on the streets. He also took a moment to reflect on how far his show had come, as it’s now been on the air for well over a decade:

Watch What Happens Live has been down here in Hudson Square for 16 years. No one was really down here when we started. We love this neighborhood, we’re proud to be here. [And I hope] everyone throws out trash here with a smile.

“It’s really fun, and I’m really honored, actually,” Andy noted, smiling as he cut a ribbon during the ceremony. Another ceremony attendee, Samara Karasyk, the president and chief executive of the Hudson Square Business Improvement District, praised Andy’s sense of humor.

“Andy Cohen has a very tongue-in-cheek, snarky humor, like we do here at the business improvement district,” she said. “He understands the humor behind having a trash can,” she noted. New episodes of Watch What Happens Live air every week on Sunday through Thursday, only on Bravo.
