Donald Trump brutally banned from Met Gala by Anna Wintour after attending for years

New York’s most exclusive event, The Met Gala sets the stage for the biggest night in fashion. Not just a celebration of fashion, the Met Gala is also a fundraising event spearheaded by Anna Wintour, the editor-in-chief of Vogue magazine.

It is reasonable to assume that the biggest stars hope to receive a ticket to the prestigious event, which is held at the Metropolitan Museum of Art every year on the first Monday in May.

While celebrities such as Kim Kardashian and Blake Lively ascend the steps of the museum most years, some have decided never to attend again. This includes Jennifer Garner, who revealed she would never return to The Met Gala following a negative experience in 2007.

However, some celebrities don’t have this kind of power and are left out against their will. And Donald Trump falls into this category.

Wintour, 75, spilled the beans during a segment of “Spill Your Guts or Fill Your Guts” on James Corden’s The Late show in 2017.

When Corden, 46, inquired who would never be invited back to The Met Gala, Wintour chose to divulge rather than consume pickled pigs feet, promptly answering “Donald Trump”.

The US president, 78, had been a fixture at the illustrious bash since the 1980s, initially with his former spouse, Ivana Trump. From 2004, he made appearances with his third wife, Melania, whom he married the following year.

Trump’s last appearance at The Met Gala with Melania was in 2012, where the ex-model dazzled in a white dress featuring bold shoulders and a high hemline.

A number of stars have even snubbed the glamorous event, including One Direction singer Zayn Malik. The 32-year-old attended the 2016 with his then-girlfriend Gigi Hadid but made it clear he has no plans to return.

“Now it’s not something I would go to,” he told GQ in 2018. “I’d rather be sitting at my house doing something productive than dressing up in really expensive clothes and being photographed on a red carpet…to do the self-indulgent ‘look at me, I’m amazing’ thing on the red carpet, it’s not me.”
