Guns N’ Roses frontman Axl Rose loses it in on-stage meltdown as he kicks drum kit

This past weekend, Guns N’ Roses frontman Axl Rose appeared to have an on-stage meltdown that left fans buzzing. The incident unfolded during the band’s performance of “Welcome to the Jungle” at the Estadio Huracán in Buenos Aires on Saturday night, October 18. The 63-year-old singer seemed to lose his cool right from the start of the show.

As the opening act kicked off, Rose’s fury appeared to be directed at the group’s recent addition, drummer Isaac Carpenter. Attendees were left stunned as Rose hurled his microphone towards Carpenter’s drum kit in a fit of anger. The scene escalated as the frontman tore off his leather jacket and exited the stage abruptly, leaving the band to conclude the first number without him.

Later in the set, Rose returned, only to climb onto the drum riser and deliver a powerful kick to the bass drum. Earlier in the evening, he had shared a cryptic message with the audience, igniting speculation about whether technical glitches, interpersonal tension, or a combination of both were behind his outburst.

Insiders have since shed light on the situation, revealing to the Daily Mail that technical issues were indeed a significant factor. “There were technical difficulties with Axl’s in-ear monitors,” a source explained. “He could only hear the percussion instruments and nothing else. Fortunately, the tech team resolved the problem by the third song, allowing the show to continue smoothly.”

This incident has once again sparked discussions about the band’s internal dynamics, particularly following recent changes within the group. As fans and commentators dissect the events, it remains to be seen what impact, if any, this will have on the legendary rock band’s future performances.

Long-time drummer Frank Ferrer, who’d held the sticks since 2006, left the band in March in what was initially described as an “amicable” parting. However, Ferrer later suggested otherwise, expressing “disappointment” that his tenure had ended.

He wrote on Instagram at the time: “The outpouring of love I have felt from the incredible fans of Guns N’ Roses and my peers over the past 24 hours has been tremendous.

“I will have immense gratitude and love always for Axl and the band, while at the same time, disappointment that this chapter came to an end. It has been an incredible 19 years.

“Guns N’ Roses has given me life-changing memories and experiences. A huge thanks to management, the crew, and fans for giving me memories that I will cherish for my lifetime. I hope I see you all again soon!”

The band’s original drummer was Rob Gardner, before Steven Adler took over and played on their debut 1987 album Appetite for Destruction, featuring the tracks Welcome to the Jungle, Paradise City, and Sweet Child O’Mine.

Ferrer replaced Brain, whose real name is Bryan Mantia, who became Guns N’ Roses drummer in 2000. Carpenter, best known for his work with AWOLNATION and Duff McKagan’s side project Loaded, joined the lineup just a day after Ferrer’s exit.

For fans, Buenos Aires has already raised doubts about how smoothly the new arrangement is working out. The timing is especially delicate. Just last week, Slash hinted to Guitar World that the band is edging closer to the release of their first proper album in nearly two decades.

He told the outlet: “There’s so much material at this point – it’s a matter of having the discipline to sit down and f***ing get into it.” He added that planning anything in Guns N’ Roses has always been “impossible”.
