Bam Margera has had a bad few years with addictions plunging him to rock bottom. However, he’s finally fighting fit and looking healthy and sober. A source exclusively tells In Touch that his friends are keeping their fingers and toes crossed that it’ll stick this time and he’ll be able to turn his life around.
“He really needs to do this for his son and he recognizes that so everyone’s praying that he can stay on the right path this time,” the insider says. “His son, Phoenix, adores him. He’s almost 8 and really needs his dad in his life.”
The source adds that it does “feel like a miracle that Bam is still alive at this point” and the former Jackass star, 45, is “saying that he isn’t going to take that for granted.”
“He is focused on taking all the steps he needs to stay sober and make a good life for himself and his wife and his son,” the insider continues. “Being a dad brings him so much joy. He’s so proud of Phoenix and loves spending time with him. Addiction is a beast though, a person can have all the reasons in the world to avoid drugs and they still get sucked back in so there’s just no way of guaranteeing anything with an addict. But so far he’s been making the right choices and his health has been drastically improving.”
Once a breakout star on Viva La Bam, Bam’s life took a major nosedive after years of nonstop partying and public meltdowns. Fame hit him fast and hard, and for a while he was riding high. But things really started to spiral after the death of his best friend Ryan Dunn in 2011. That loss wrecked him and sent him deep into addiction, which only got worse with time.

Bam spent years in and out of rehab, dodging legal issues and making headlines for all the wrong reasons. He was eventually kicked off Jackass Forever for breaking his sobriety agreement, which led to a messy legal fight with the franchise he helped build. At one point he was posting erratic videos, disappearing from treatment centers and getting placed under a temporary conservatorship. His friends and family were begging him to get help but nothing seemed to stick.
Things got so bad that people genuinely didn’t think he was going to make it. His relationship with his parents was strained, his friendships were falling apart and it felt like he was burning every bridge he had left. But even through all the chaos, there was still hope he’d find a way back.
Now, with a renewed focus on being a father to Phoenix, Bam seems to be trying. That relationship might be the thing that saves him. He knows what’s at stake. After everything he’s lost, he still has a chance to turn things around. He’s got people in his corner who are rooting for him and for once, it looks like he’s listening. It’s been a long road but if he can stay on it, there’s still time to write a different ending.
