The BBC News host spoke from personal experience, having shared the story of her father, Chris Warhurst, who passed away in July last year due to mixed dementia, a combination of Alzheimer’s and vascular dementia diagnosed in 2022.
Reaching out to her 53,000 Instagram followers, Nina, 45, conveyed a deeply felt message on the challenges faced by individuals with dementia as temperatures soar. She advised, “Just a gentle reminder to be extra cautious in the heat if you or someone you love is affected by dementia. Often, those living with this condition may not fully recognize when they’re overheating or in need of hydration.”
Nina elaborated, “Communication of these needs can often be difficult for them. They might also not realize which lighter, cooler clothing is appropriate for such weather.”
Reflecting on her personal experiences, she recounted, “I vividly remember my father struggling—there were instances when the heat led him into stages of delirium.”
Concluding her message, the BBC presenter emphasized, “It’s crucial to be vigilant during extreme temperatures. Nonetheless, there’s still plenty of joy to be had alongside dementia. Just ensure you stay cautious during the warm weather.”

Viewers were worried after she was seen with swelling on her left eyelid.
She has since addressed her tough week saying the heartbreaking news stories she has to cover, including the death of toddler Preston Davey, had made for a difficult week.
