The Australian broadcasting community is mourning the loss of a beloved radio icon, Adam Poort, who passed away at the age of 41. Poort, a notable radio producer and sound designer based on the Gold Coast, succumbed to an aggressive form of cancer in October. At the time of his passing, he was a valued member of the team at 1029 Hot Tomato, bringing with him over a decade of experience in the industry.

Listeners will fondly remember Poort as the unmistakable voice behind the Hot Tomato call sign, a role that endeared him to many across the airwaves.

Xylon ‘Xy’ McEwan, a former colleague, shared the heartbreaking news and paid tribute to Poort’s enduring influence. He posted a nostalgic photo of the two enjoying a drink together, accompanied by a heartfelt message: “A legend, a mentor, and a friend. You were a true inspiration to everyone you met.

“Your kindness, love for your friends, and passion for the broadcasting industry made you the remarkable person you were. I am deeply grateful for everything you taught me as an audio producer and for the friendship we shared. You will be sorely missed by many. Thank you for everything. The world feels much smaller today. Rest In Peace.”

Expressions of sorrow and admiration also poured in from Poort’s friends and family. His former station, Hot Tomato, paid homage on social media, stating, “This week, the Hot Tomato family lost a beautiful man. Adam Poort was a friend to everyone in our building.”

“He worked behind the scenes here in production, so you wouldn’t know his voice, but you would know his work”

Big Brother Australia star Trevor Butler wrote: “Sad day. Love to Adam’s family. A great man who’ll be missed every day.”

Queensland radio star Jess Hardy chimed in: “Such a great human. Devastating. RIP Adam. Pleasure to work with. My deepest condolences,’ Queensland radio star Jess Hardy chimed in.”

One fan agreed: “Life is fleeting. Had some great memories with him. He was one of the kindest people I know.”
